On the second floor of Lincoln Square South, the counter that served Great State Burger and King Leroy has gone quiet. Mean Sandwich, a sandwich shop from Seattle, has already put up a sign announcing it's next. Downtown Bellevue Network reported on October 7 that the two restaurants had closed at Lincoln South Food Hall, 500 Bellevue Way NE. The new tenant was named on the same day the closure was reported.
Most of Downtown Bellevue's restaurant news since midsummer follows that pattern. A suite empties inside a tower or food hall, and a successor is named either right away or within weeks. The places you eat are changing one address at a time inside a small number of buildings. Meanwhile, the way people get to those buildings from Seattle changed for good this year.
Great State Burger and King Leroy opened together at the food hall in August 2024. Because the two kitchens were connected, you could order from either menu. Great State's other Bellevue location, at Bellevue Square, ran for nine years before closing in 2025. Mean Sandwich is targeting mid-October in the same space, according to a follow-up report from October 8. It hadn't announced an exact opening day at that point. Elsewhere in the hall, OAKBERRY, the açaí bowl brand, was reported open in July in Suite 250.
The same thing is happening a few blocks east and north. Here's where things stand at each address as of mid-October 2026:
| Building / address | What left | What's there now or next | Status as of Oct. 12, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lincoln South Food Hall, 500 Bellevue Way NE | Great State Burger and King Leroy | Mean Sandwich | Targeting mid-October |
| Bellevue Connection, 550 106th Ave NE, Suite 150 | Don't Yell at Me | CILO Lab, gelato and tea | Opened in September |
| Bellevue Connection, 550 106th Ave NE, street level | Itadaki Yakiniku | No successor reported | Closed |
| Ten20 Tower, 1020 108th Ave NE, Suite 100 | Tem Sib Eatery & Bar | SUDA, Thai, from the same team | Targeting fall, no date set |
| Lincoln Square North, 700 Bellevue Way NE, Suite 280 | Former Din Tai Fung space | Wagyu House | Announced for end of 2026 |
| Bellevue Towers, 460 106th Ave NE | n/a | K-Cafe Dabang & Lounge | Announced for November |
Ten20 is the clearest case of a space staying in the family. Tem Sib served its last day on August 31, and the same team is preparing SUDA, a Thai restaurant, in that suite. The Bellevue Beacon reported on September 28 that the space was being renovated for a fall opening and that no date had been announced.
At Bellevue Connection, CILO Lab moved into the storefront Don't Yell at Me used to occupy and planned a grand-opening weekend for September 12 and 13. The same building's street-level restaurant, Itadaki Yakiniku, has closed. As of this writing, that's the one space in the table with no successor reported.
Up Bellevue Way, Wagyu House has announced an all-you-can-eat Japanese barbecue restaurant for the former Din Tai Fung space at Lincoln Square North. It's aiming for the end of 2026. At Bellevue Towers, K-Cafe Dabang & Lounge plans to open in November with coffee, matcha, desserts, and cocktails.
Three summer openings arrived without a closure story attached.
Main Street works differently. There, the changes come from redevelopment, not one tenant handing off to the next. Matcha Magic plans to close its café at 10246 Main St. on November 1 because redevelopment is getting close, Downtown Bellevue Network reported. The operator said it's looking for another location in Bellevue. Farther west on Main, Makkee Dessert took over the former Sugar n Flakes space at 10797 Main St. and ran a soft opening through September 10. So Main Street still has storefront-to-storefront handoffs, but a closure there can also mean the building itself is about to change.
These buildings are now reachable from Seattle in a new way. Sound Transit's Crosslake Connection opened to passengers on March 28, 2026, linking the 2 Line to the 1 Line at International District/Chinatown. The 550 bus kept running for five more months. Sound Transit's fall service change then eliminated Route 550, Bellevue–Seattle, effective August 29, 2026, and pointed riders to the 2 Line and Route 556 instead.
Sound Transit estimated that the train takes 21 minutes from Bellevue to International District/Chinatown, 26 minutes to Westlake, and 33 minutes to UW, as KING5 reported when the line opened. The 2 Line's Bellevue stops are South Bellevue, East Main, Bellevue Downtown, Wilburton, Spring District, and BelRed, with Overlake Village just past them on the way to Redmond.
From Bellevue Downtown Station, the free Bellevue Light Rail Shuttle covers the last stretch. It's a Visit Bellevue pilot that started August 3. Two Volkswagen ID. BUZZ vans wait at the station and take riders anywhere in the BellHop service area. You don't need a reservation or an app. Just tell the driver where you're going. The shuttle runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the pilot is funded through December 2026.
There's one disruption on the calendar soon. On Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18, buses replace 2 Line trains all day between International District/Chinatown and South Bellevue while crews work on the overhead power system in the Mercer Island tunnel. With the 550 gone, that weekend's cross-lake transit trips will ride the replacement buses.
Snowflake Lane runs nightly from November 27 through December 24 on Bellevue Way between NE 4th and NE 8th streets. It's a free show that starts at 7 p.m. and lasts about 25 minutes. The 500 and 700 blocks of Bellevue Way NE, home to Lincoln Square South and North, fall inside that stretch. Mean Sandwich and Wagyu House are both scheduled to open there before or during the season.
Here's how the season lines up:
For Seattle friends coming over for Snowflake Lane, the train is now the one-seat ride. The free station shuttle stops at 6 p.m. on weekdays and doesn't run on weekends, so it ends before the 7 p.m. show starts. Getting from Bellevue Downtown Station to Bellevue Way after dark means walking or finding another ride.
